Maxim graduated from the Kharkov Musical school as the chorus master (1994), and the Kharkov State Institute of Arts, as the singer, on the class of Honored worker of Arts of Ukraine, professor Lyudmila Tsurkan and on the class of chamber singing of Diana Gendelman (2003). Maxim debuted in the National Opera of Ukraine (Kiev) in Verdi's "Requiem" (2003).

In 2003 he also made his debut in Bolshoi Theatre with Bayan part ("Ruslan and Lyudmila" by Glinka). He took part practically in all premier performances in Bolshoi Theatre from 2003 till 2007 in such parts as Andrey ("Mazeppa" by P.Tchaikovsky), Makduff ("Macbeth" by G.Verdi), Mephistopheles ("The Fiery Angel" by S.Prokofiev), Helmsman ("Der Fliegende Holländer” by R.Wagner), Prince Vasily Shuisky ("Boris Godunov" by Mussorgsky), Zinoviy Borisovich ("Katerina Izmailova" by D.Shostakovich), Pinkerton ("Madama Butterflay" by G.Puccini), Pong ("Turandot" by G. Puccini), Ramendado ("Carmen" by G. Bizet), etc.

In 2005 in the Bolshoi Theatre he performed one of the major parties (Peter Tchaikovsky) in the world premiere of the opera “Children of Rosenthal” by Leonid Desyatnikov.
In February 2006 Maxim made his debut in Italy (Teatro di San Carlo, Napoli) in the part of Tenor in mass Es-dur by Shubert (the orchestra and chorus of “Teatro di San Carlo”, conductor Thomas Netopil). In April - May 2006, he went on tour in Germany (Leipzig GewandHaus and Weimar, Weimarhalle) and performed the tenor part in «Les Noces» by Stravinsky and «Die Erste Walpurgisnacht» by Mendelssohn (the orchestra and choir of the Mitteldeutscher Rundfunk, conductor Mario Vendzago).
In September 2006 he went on tour in Sweden (the Gothenburg, Vara) and performed tenor part in Verdi's "Requiem". In January-March 2007 he made his debut in Italy in the part of Shuisky in “Boris Godunov” by M.Mussorgsky (Teatro Comunale di Bologna). The performance was conducted by D.Gatti.
In April 2007, he took part in a new production of the opera «Boris Godunov» by M. Mussorgsky (Bolshoi Theatre, director A. Sokurov) and performed a part of Shuisky.
In June 2007, he participated in the opera-oratorio Stravinsky's “Oedipus Rex” and sang the Oedipus part.
In December 2007 Maxim Paster perfomed a part of tenor in «Glagolitic Mass» by Janacek (Bolshoi Theatre, conductor Irzhy Beloglavek (Czech Republic).
